The deadline for the 2020 competition has passed. Please check back in late summer 2020 for updated information.
Saturday, February 22, 2020
Bethesda Presbyterian Church
7611 Clarendon Road
Bethesda, MD 20814
A $35 non-refundable application fee is required by the deadline. If paying by check, remit payment to “Friday Morning Music Club” and mail with your application form. To pay with credit card, submit an online application (see above).
Entrants must be in grades 9–12 and reside in Maryland, Virginia, or the District of Columbia.
Winners will also receive one year’s free membership in the Club. All finalists will receive a recording of the Finals Concert.
Compositions may be up to 10 minutes in length, in any style, scored for up to six performers of acoustic instruments or voice.
The music must be entirely the entrant’s own work. Lyrics, however, may be taken from sources in the public domain or used with the written permission of the copyright holder. The work may not previously have won a first-place cash prize in another competition. Only two entries per student are allowed.
Three distinguished judges will select finalists based on the submitted materials. If selected for the finals, entrants must make all arrangements for performance of their work at the Finals Concert. A piano and organ will be made available. Finalists should attend the concert. Winners will be chosen following the Finals Concert based on the judges’ evaluation of the works in performance, in addition to the submitted materials.
