THE WASHINGTON INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION FOR SINGERS
The Fifty Seventh Annual Competition for Singers
is scheduled to take place in the Spring of 2010.
An online application will be available as the competition approaches.
The 2007 winners are:
Eugene Chan, baritone ($10,000 first prize plus $500 audience prize)
Emily Hindrichs, soprano ($4000 second prize)
Sidney Outlaw, baritone ($2000 third prize)
Lucia Cervoni, mezzo ($1500 fourth prize)
Evan Rainey Bennett, baritone ($500 finalist prize)
Museop Kim, baritone ($500 finalist prize)

Eligibility
- Applicants must not be under professional management.
- Applicants must be neither younger than 18 nor older than 32 at the time of the competition. Proof of age will be required.
- First prize winners of this competition in past years may not apply.
Required Repertoire
The total list of repertoire should represent 50-60 minutes of music. Specifics of the repertoire will be similar to 2007:
- An aria by J.S. Bach, Handel, Haydn or Mozart
- An aria from 19th or 20th century opera
- French art songs from the 19th-21st century
- German arts songs from the 19th-21st century
- Art songs in English, including two by American composers, one of whom is living. Contemporary arrangements of earlier music do not meet this requirement.
- Selections of applicant’s choice that best represent his or her vocal talents (May include art songs in other languages not specified above)
The Italian, German, French, and English languages must be represented in the repertoire.
