MEMBER NEWS PUBLISHED ON THIS WEB SITE IN July-August 2003:
- Nineteen-year old violinist, Benjamin Scott, will perform at the Lyceum, 201 S. Washington St., Alexandria, VA., on Sun. 8/24/03 at 3:00pm with pianist Alfred (Buddy) Clark. Planned for the program are works by Mozart, Brahms, Ysaye, Beethoven, and Sarasate.
Mr. Scott is a student at the New England Conservatory in Boston where he studies with Valeria Vilker-Kuchmen. He has been a member of the National Symphony Orchestra YouthFellowship Program and a Maryland Distinguished Scholar Talent in the Arts Finalist. He has received Awards in the Catherine Filene Shouse (Wolf Trap) Scholarship Competition, National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts, The Frederick Orchestra Young Artist Competition, the N. Va. Music Teachers Assoc. Scholarship and Concerto Competitions, the Friday Morning Music Club and the Weaver Memorial Competition. Mr. Scott was featured as a soloist at the Barns of Wolf Trap Showcase Recital and the Frederick Community College Recital playing Concerto #2 in D minor by Wieniawski. He has performed at the Kennedy Center Millennium Stage, as a NSO Youth Fellow, and as a Winner of the WGMS Young Artists Award (Scott/Ross Violin/Viola Duo). In addition to solo and ensemble concerts at NEC, UMD, and Bowdoin SMF, Mr. Scott has performed solo recitals at the historic Lyceum, Alexandria, VA; the Community College of Baltimore County Young Soloists' Recital; and as a guest Soloist on Boston's WGBH Radio Program, "From the Top."
- A Chamber Music Concert featuring Harriet Vorona, violin; Ruth Elena Schindel, viola; Jonathan Velsey, cello; and David Kosutic, piano; will take place on Sunday, September 14 at 4pm at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Fairfax, 2709 Hunter Mill Road,Oakton, Virginia. On the program are Mozart's Piano Quartet K. 478 in G Minor and ÝJohannes Brahms' Piano Quartet Opus 26 in A-Major. Admission is free
