THE FRIDAY MORNING MUSIC CLUB FOUNDATION
Thomas Mastroianni, Director
The Friday Morning MusicClub established the Friday Morning Music Club Foundation in 1948 to assist gifted young musicians to further their studies and careers and as a means of extending its services internationally. It has been financed since its establishment entirely by gifts and
legacies.
The Washington International Competition (WIC) has been held annually since 1950 for singers, pianists, and string players each in a three year rotation. The
Composition Competition was started in 1976 with applicants submitting string quartets. In 2003 this was expanded to include compositions for small string chamber groups with or without piano. The Johansen International Competition was begun in 1990 when Anna Johansen endowed a program for young string players to be held every three years.
